Decorating a Senior’s New Room or Residence after a Move

When you begin to decorate your parent, friend or loved ones' new residence or room for them you should take safety into account first.
1. Some of those once favorite throw rugs may need to become wall hangings if they are now too dangerous because a walker might get caught in them.
2. Small end tables that used to hold knick-knacks should be handed down to another generation or tucked into a corner where they won’t become a hazard.
3. Also, as we age it will get harder to get out of worn-out sofas and chairs. The recommended height is 20-21” which is the new standard on the market today. If in doubt, ask. And sturdiness of seating is important. Above all, they need to be comfortable where they sit and be able to get in and out of it by themselves for as long as possible.
3. Make sure that there a telephone is within reach of the bed and/or where they sit during the day.

That’s it – mainly think hazard elimination.
