Money for College
When you have small children, the costs are relatively small to raise them. As they grow, so will their expenses. When our daughter was a Junior in High School (United States), I learned about something I wish I would have known about when she was in kindergarten called UPromise. You join UPromise for free. There are no strings attached. You don't need me to "get in." There will be no spam from them. What you will see is the names of hundreds of reputable companies supporting it. You will be able to purchase things for you and your family online or from a host of stores from those companies and a portion of the proceeds will be matched and put into an account for your child's future education. More than likely you are already buying from them and just not getting this percentage back. (The list is almost endless. Stores like Best Buy, Barnes & Nobles, Albertsons, Tide, Exxon, Circuit City, Bed Bath & Beyond and the list just goes on and on.) If you start this when they are young, you could amass a great dollar amount by the time they go to college. You can even sign up friends and family who do not mind helping your effort. Probably my favorite thing to do is "gas up." Every time I put a gallon of gas in my tank I am supporting my daughter. I hate higher gas prices these days but I enjoy knowing some of it is going toward her education. Had I had more than one child at that time I could have split it between them. UPromise also has investment opportunities you can review and decide if any are a match for you. I opted to begin making matching donations since I wanted this account to grow faster and now I am very glad I did. The money leaving my checking account monthly was transparent and this summer we will use the money towards her collage education. UPromise is an excellent way to build a college account from nothing. |
