Winning at Sweepstakes
So you want to know more about Sweepstakes and what it takes to win them? We all see those contests in magazines and on the internet but not all of us take the time to enter them. Perhaps it appears it would be a waste of time, right? After you have won something like 75,000 sky miles you might not think so. These little forms you see are called Sweepstakes or contests and the people who follow them regulary are called Sweepers. If you want to try your hand at it, the first thing is to before launching into this hobby is to Organize. Yes, Martha, organize. You need to have all the correct tools and supplies and put them in the place you will be "sweeping." Experienced sweepers know that you need to have various #10 envelopes. You'll need plain white #10 envelopes but you will also need to have colored #10 envelopes along with decorated ones. You can grab old magazines or stickers and use markers to decorate the envelopes. Another good resource is your local drugstore. After each holiday they are ridding themselves of greeting card envelopes they no longer need. If you make friends with the 'card lady' she may give you some of those envelopes she is about to throw away. Don't worry about getting the large ones because those will require too much postage. But do plan to decorate them! This can be done while you are watching television or something for your kids to do! Why would you need such a vast and varied selection? Simply because the competition is steep! Each set of rules state what they want from entrants. You want your entry to stand out...as long as it abides by the rules. Next, you can locate 3" x 5" unlined index cards in office supply stores. The 3"x5" papers can be found in some drugstores. Consider purchasing a plastic tote or some other container to hold your pens, envelopes and papers in. That way you can be portable and carry it with you when you want to work on your hobby. With postage on the way up in Spring 2008, now would be a great time to stock up on the "Forever Stamp". The last step to all of this is locating the sweepstakes you would like to enter. It may have to do with the Sponsors you like, the prizes you want to win or the contest itself. You can search online for sweepstakes naturally but my experience tells me it is better to go with a newsletter and there are several good ones. At the end of this article are a few links to get you started.
